Firefighters investigating after Dunrovin Country Store and Deli heavily damaged by 4-alarm fire

VASS, N.C. (WTVD) -- Firefighters are investigating after battling a four-alarm fire at a store in Moore County Saturday evening.

Officials said the fire started at the Dunrovin Country Store and Deli on U.S. 1 around 6:30 p.m.

First responders arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the building and worked to bring the fire under control. The response grew to four alarms and additional crews from across Moore County and neighboring communities assisted as firefighters spent hours working the fire.

Heavy damage could be seen at the back of the building.

The business owner said the store had closed for the day and no one was inside when the fire started.

All fire units cleared the scene just before 1 a.m., roughly six hours after the initial call. U.S. 1 Southbound remained closed Sunday morning, while northbound lanes were open.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

According to its website, Dunrovin first opened its doors in 1950. It's Moore County's oldest and largest country store.
