DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Durham County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that an arrest has been made in a May shooting.
Jose Manuel Cantera Ortiz, 19, was taken into custody and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, and altering/stealing/destroying criminal evidence.
The shooting happened the evening of May 28 in the 2900 block of Ellis Road. A juvenile was seriously injured. The sheriff's office did not previously disclose that the victim was a juvenile.
Investigators determined that a dispute that began on social media had escalated, leading a group of young people to Ortiz's home on Ellis Street. The sheriff's office said Ortiz allegedly shot at the group outside his home, striking the juvenile. The gunshot victim was found at a nearby park and taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Ortiz was booked into the Durham County Detention Facility on a $25,000 secured bond. He has since posted bond and been released.
