Firefighters battle four-alarm blaze at Saturday night

VASS, N.C. (WTVD) -- Firefighters are investigating after a four-alarm fire broke out at a store in Vass on Saturday evening.

Officials said the fire started at The Dunrovin Country Store and Deli on U.S. 1 around 6:30 p.m.

When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the building and worked to bring the fire under control. The store was closed when the fire began.

Firefighters spent hours battling the blaze, and heavy damage could be seen at the back of the building.

The response grew to four alarms, bringing additional crews from across Moore County and neighboring communities.

The business owner said everyone evacuated safely and no animals were inside the store when the fire broke out.

All fire units cleared the scene just before 1 a.m., roughly 6 hours after the initial call. U.S. 1 Southbound remained closed Sunday morning, while northbound lanes were open.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
