Former WCPSS worker charged with assault on student with disability

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Wake County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that a former Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) employee has been charged with assault on an individual with a disability.

The sheriff's office said it received a report of an incident against a student by a Special Programs Instructional Assistant at Carnage Middle School that allegedly happened in March.

After an investigation, investigators charged Jyl Crockett, 57, with one count of assault on an individual with a disability.

According to court documents, Crockett is accused of kicking a student in his midsection.

Crockett, of Raleigh, turned herself in on Thursday and was processed into the Wake County Detention Center.

This is an ongoing investigation, and no other details were immediately available, the sheriff's office said.
