Fort Bragg soldiers deploying to help fight Northwest wildfires

FORT BRAGG, N.C. (WTVD) -- Soldiers from Fort Bragg are preparing to deploy to the Pacific Northwest to help battle a growing number of wildfires.

According to military officials, 200 soldiers will be deployed to support firefighting operations alongside federal and state agencies.

The deployment comes as wildfire activity remains high across the region. As of this week, the National Interagency Fire Center reported 46 large fires in the Northwest that remain uncontained.

The soldiers will assist with ground operations as crews continue working to contain the fires and protect communities threatened by the blazes.

Officials have not announced how long the deployment is expected to last.
