Cape Fear Valley worker, spouse accused in sex crimes against children

ERWIN, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Cape Fear Valley employee is facing sexual assault charges involving a child.

Court documents show that 39-year-old Joshua Gilliam-Lynch, a phlebotomist with Cape Fear Primary Care in Erwin, is accused of assaulting a child.

His spouse, 39-year-old Ronald Wayne Lynch, is also charged in the investigation.

Cybertips provided to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) helped spark the investigation.

The Harnett County Sheriff's Office said it received multiple cybertips through the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) database on March 9 regarding the couple possessing child sexual abuse material. Investigators executed a search warrant at their home on Linda Baucom Lane in Erwin and seized several personal electronic devices.

Gilliam was charged with first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, first-degree statutory sexual offense, and indecent liberties. He was being held under no bond.

Lynch was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. He was held under a $360,000 secured bond.

Both men made court appearances on Thursday.

There are at least two known victims involved. The offenses allegedly happened in September, according to arrest warrants.

The investigation remains ongoing, Sheriff Wayne Coats said, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
