A happy update for 'Mr. Pickles', dog who was extremely neglected

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- There's a happy update to one of the worst cases of animal neglect one rescue group says they've ever seen.

Back in May, Chatham County deputies responded to a welfare check when they found the homeowner dead, and they also found a cocker spaniel inside a closet in devastating condition.

The dog was found so extremely matted that it required five hours of sedated grooming to remove 12 pounds of matted fur.

Since then, that cocker spaniel, named Mr. Pickles, has been living at Long Leaf Animal Rescue, where he's thriving.

On Thursday, he reunited with the veterinarians in Chapel Hill and the deputies who helped save his life.

"It's remarkable to see a little dog that was so scared that night and had gone through so much," said Dr. Anna Taylor, of VEG ER. "And you would expect some of those, some of those pets to not want to trust people again. But you saw how happy he came in wagging his little tail and being so friendly with everybody. So, it's honestly just something beautiful to see."

There are already families approved to adopt Mr. Pickles.
