History hits road as Freedom Truck Museum makes stop at Fort Bragg

FORT BRAGG, N.C. (WTVD) -- As the United States marks its 250th anniversary this summer, a convoy of six mobile museums, known as the Freedom Trucks, is traveling across the nation, bringing interactive exhibits and patriotic inspiration to communities.

One of these 18-wheeler museums is parked at Fort Bragg, offering a hands-on journey through American history until March 12.

The traveling exhibit features a wall honoring 50 American heroes, interactive displays chronicling milestones such as the Revolutionary War, and engaging activities such as digitally signing the Declaration of Independence. The goal, organizers say, is to make history accessible and engaging for all ages.

"I think the real thing that I hope people come away with is a renewed pride in American history," said Dean Shirley, tour manager for Freedom 250. "There's a lot of people out there that kind of want to turn kind of a blind eye to the early Revolutionary War history and stuff like that. But I think that's part of who we are."

Everyone is invited to explore the Freedom Truck during its Fort Bragg stop, but base officials remind visitors to request a pass online through the Fort Bragg website before arriving.

The Freedom Truck will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Thursday. Throckmorton Library is located on R. Miller Street on Fort Bragg.

For non-Department of Defense ID cardholders, visit the Fort Bragg website to request an "Online Visitor Pass."
