HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. (WTVD) -- An 11-year-old boy is safe after falling through ice on a pond thanks to the quick actions of a Holly Springs police officer.

The boy fell through the ice at Womble Park this afternoon.

Officer Percy Evans was on patrol at the park in anticipation of deteriorating weather conditions related to the snow and was flagged down by someone who reported that a boy had been walking on the ice and had fallen through.

The officer went into the pond and rescued the child.
