Developers pitch series of proposed towers in North Hills

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Kane Realty is looking to build several towers, some as high as 37 stories, along Six Forks Road in Raleigh.

The developer said there are no immediate plans to start construction, and it plans to submit its application to the City of Raleigh in August.

Carl Ebhardt said he's not opposed to Kane's latest redeveloped proposal.

His home is not included in the proposal, but it would sit in the shadow of one proposed tower.

"I watched it all be built," he said.

Ebhardt bought his ranch 60 years ago and paid just $17,000. He said back then, there was a farm across the street.

"There were chickens with chicken coop and a couple of cows," he said.

Ebhardt questions if his own house will be demolished in the future.

"Eventually, somebody will want to buy this house and develop this block," he said.

Kane Reality said the proposal is different from the application pulled in 2023, in that it's asking for more height, not more density.

"We almost never built anything across the board to the heights that we're allowed to," said Kane Realty Development Director Kallie O'Haren Walker.

The developer also said construction would not occur at the same time.

Larry Helfant is the Midtown Citizens Advisory Council Chair, and said that he feels Six Forks Road is already busy enough.

"It's too much for this whole suburban area," said Helfant. "There hasn't been any improvement of local roads. You can't say that you're not adding density to a project when you're adding 40-story buildings. It's going to have people, no matter what you do."

Walker says of the congestion concerns, "Mixed-use destinations help ease congestion by creating trip capture - when more destinations are located close together, vehicle trips and time in the car are reduced."
