I-40 West closed after crash near Exit 306B, NCDOT says

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A section of Interstate 40 westbound was shut down Wednesday morning following a crash in Johnston County, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

The State Highway Patrol responded to the crash near mile marker 306 just after 9:45 a.m. State troopers said a fully loaded concrete truck was going west on I-40 when it blew a tire, causing the driver to lose control. The truck overturned in the roadway.

After the crash, concrete spilled onto the interstate, causing the traffic delay. All lanes have since reopened.

The truck driver, Nero M. Lewis, 43, of Fayetteville, and a passenger, Jeffery L. Goodwin, 65, of Fuquay-Varina, were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
