Hiker, 83, found safe after going missing near Grand Canyon National Park

GRAND CANYON VILLAGE, Ariz. -- An 83-year-old who went missing on a hike nearly two days ago is safe.

Officials say the man became separated from his companion while hiking in a remote area near Grand Canyon National Park.

The desperate search included helicopters and drones.

A cell phone ping finally led rescuers to the man.

He was cold and unable to walk, but otherwise in good spirits.

About 20 rescuers carried him more than a mile through rough terrain before he was evaluated and released.

According to the National Park Service, over 300 people are rescued from the Grand Canyon annually.
