Man seriously injured after train strike causes fall from Durham bridge

Train strikes pedestrian on Durham bridge, police say

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Durham Police Department said a man was struck by a train Wednesday morning, causing him to fall from a bridge to the street below.

According to police, the pedestrian was walking on railroad tracks on the bridge near Pettigrew Street and Chapel Hill Street when an approaching train sounded its warning and struck him. The pedestrian then fell to the street below.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.
