AG Jeff Jackson, Gov. Josh Stein announce Meta settlement in major social media case
RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson, Gov. Josh Stein and other state leaders on Wednesday announced a landmark settlement with Meta, resolving a lawsuit brought by North Carolina and dozens of other states that accused the social media company of designing products that contributed to addictive use among children and teens.
Jackson and Stein shared details of the agreement during a news conference at the North Carolina Department of Justice headquarters in Raleigh. North Carolina Superintendent of Public Instruction Maurice "Mo" Green also participated in the announcement.
State leaders said the case focused on allegations that Meta's social media platforms were designed in ways that encouraged excessive use by young people and failed to adequately address concerns about their impact on youth mental health.
