Man's body recovered after he disappeared in Franklin County lake

LAKE ROYALE, N.C. (WTVD) -- Authorities in Franklin County said a 25-year-old man died Sunday at Lake Royale.

Police said the man entered the water around 6 p.m. beyond the designated buoy line and never resurfaced.

The search turned into a recovery mission. First responders recovered his body after a three-hour search.

The man's identity has not been released. The victim's family has been notified, Lake Royale Company Interim Police Chief Robert Smith said.

"On behalf of the LRCPD, I extend our deepest condolences to the victim's family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time," Smith wrote on social media. "We also thank the emergency responders and rescue teams whose efforts were swift and professional throughout the incident."
