PITTSBORO, N.C. (WTVD) -- An investigation is underway in Chatham County after a car was pulled from Jordan Lake.

A fisherman first reported spotting the Nissan Maxima on Sonar earlier this week.

Barnes Auto & Towing pulled the early 2000s Nissan from the water on Friday. No one was inside.

Durham County Sheriff's Office

"This isn't something we see every day, especially in such a popular fishing spot," said Chatham County Sheriff Mike Roberson. "We're grateful to the Durham County Sheriff's Office for their dive support and to Barnes Towing for helping bring the car safely to shore."

The sheriff's office responded to the scene Tuesday but found no signs of a recent crash.

Deputies returned Friday, and the Durham County Sheriff's Office Search and Recovery Team was able to find the car under the US 64 bridge in roughly 30 feet of water.

"This isn't something we see every day, especially in such a popular fishing spot," said Sheriff Mike Roberson. "We're grateful to the Durham County Sheriff's Office for their dive support and to Barnes Towing for helping bring the car safely to shore."

Investigators will examine the Maxima for clues as to how long it was in the lake and whether it is connected to any previous incidents or reports.
