FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- Megan Scott, the mother charged with killing her three children in a high-speed crash, was back in court Monday afternoon to face a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge connected to the same day as the deadly wreck.
The charge is linked to a series of events that began with a domestic dispute on June 3 and ended with the deaths of her children, all under the age of 10.
According to an affidavit, on June 3, Scott allegedly bit her boyfriend, Demetrius Williams, on the arm before hitting him with a car and leaving the scene. Williams claims that they argued about money he planned to send to his other daughter. Williams said he reached over Scott to grab a cigarette, and that's when she bit him. He also claims that after they got out of the car and Scott tried to run him over.
Officers responded to the hit-and-run call on Cedar Creek Road later that day. When Fayetteville police tried to serve Scott with a warrant related to the domestic dispute, authorities say she sped off and hit two officers.
NC Highway Patrol said Scott was driving 111 mph before she crashed into a tree.
Charles Dublin, who also lives nearby, said, "They were just starting to live. They had no chance."
Police said none of Scott's three children were in car seats or wearing seat belts. Two were ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The third was airlifted to UNC Hospital and later died.
Janene Ackles, who has lived on Cedar Creek Road for five years, said, "Just knowing that children had lost their lives. So that was rough."
Ackles said speeding is common on her street. "They are flying, so I put my turn signal way up there," she said. She recalled being home when she heard the crash. "I heard the sudden, you know, where she was going fast and then nothing. So I didn't think about it until I got up and I looked. And then that's when I saw the rescue squad out there."
Scott is being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for July 7.
