2 children killed, 3rd in critical condition after NC mom crashes car

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- A North Carolina mom accused of driving 111 mph when she crashed into a tree and killed three children earlier this month is now facing felony charges connected to the accident, according to court documents.

ABC11 has obtained documents that show Megan Scott was the driver and is the mother of the three children. Scott is facing 3 counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with each child's death. She was officially charged on Monday, June 15, according to the documents.

The crash happened on Wednesday night June 3 in Fayetteville. Fayetteville police previously reported that officers had tried to conduct a traffic stop on Scott when she sped away and hit two officers.

Officers then responded to the crash scene around 10:50 p.m. on Cedar Creek Road near Fields Road off Highway 53. Two children who had been ejected from the car were pronounced dead at the scene. A third child later died after being flown to the UNC Chapel Hill hospital

According to the NC Highway Patrol (NCSHP), which is in charge of the investigation, none of the children were in child seats.

In addition to the manslaughter charges Scott is facing, traffic charges related to not having the children properly secured in safety seats, not wearing her seat belt, failing to maintain lane, speeding and reckless driving. She's also charged with assault on an officer in connection with the two officers she hit while speeding away from the traffic stop.

She is being held in jail without bond.
