CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Panther Creek High School held its cross-country tryouts, but with their unique twist.
Once the clocks struck midnight tryouts began.
The Midnight Madness 2-mile time trial brought 47 students out for the run.
Tryouts were done in the dark with only Christmas lights and glow wrist bands.
Practiced wrapped at 1:15 a.m.
The school's cross-country team has a tradition of holding their tryouts as early as possible and with the dangerous temperatures from the heat wave this week, the timing of the tryouts seemed ideal.
The students were given ice pops to cool down.
Panther Creek High School's season starts on August 9 at Wake Med Soccer Park.
