
CLAYTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- A pedestrian died after they were struck by a train, Clayton Police said Tuesday.
It happened around 6 p.m. when a person trying to cross the tracks was hit by Amtrak Train 79 (The Carolinian) near Stallings Street.
The passenger train was traveling northbound toward Raleigh with a destination of Charlotte.
The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
"We extend our condolences to those affected by this tragic incident," a Clayton spokesperson said in a release.
No other details were immediately released.
A day earlier, a man died after he was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Durham.
