Pedestrian killed in I-95 S crash in Johnston County

BENSON, N.C. (WTVD) -- A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle Sunday morning on Interstate 95 southbound in Johnston County.

It happened near the 79-mile marker just before 2 a.m. near Benson.

Emergency units, including Benson Fire, Four Oaks Fire, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP), responded to the scene. The victim was pronounced deceased upon arrival.

Eyewitness News was on the scene as NCSHP was investigating the incident, which involved a semi-truck and trailer. Troopers were seen conducting part of the investigation with the truck driver, and a wrecker was observed preparing to tow the semi from the scene.

All lanes were closed for several hours and have since reopened.
