Pedestrian struck and killed in Raleigh; driver initially left scene, police say
RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Raleigh late Friday night, according to police.
Officers responded around 10:29 p.m. Friday to a crash involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Blue Ridge Road and Macon Pond Drive.
The preliminary investigation indicates that, based on witness statements, the pedestrian was lying in the left northbound lane of Blue Ridge Road when a dark-colored SUV traveling in the same lane struck them.
Police said the driver did not stop at the scene following the collision. The vehicle was later located by on-duty Raleigh police officers.
The pedestrian died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.
