Raleigh 19-year-old charged after alleged online threats and extremist posts

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- The FBI has arrested a 19-year-old man from Raleigh who, according to the agency, was obsessed with mass shooters.

Investigators say Eric Byrd also threatened to become one himself in messages posted on social media.

Authorities report that he posted photos of himself holding guns alongside disturbing racist, homophobic, and pro Nazi comments.

Byrd was detained on March 9 during an involuntary commitment request after Meta flagged the concerning posts to federal authorities.

He is charged with communicating a threat.
