Woman killed in hit-and-run crash on I-40 in Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Raleigh police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian early Sunday morning on Interstate 40.

According to police, officers responded around 12:15 a.m. to a crash involving a pedestrian on I-40 East near South Saunders Street.

Emergency crews found 33-year-old Jena Shively dead in the roadway.

Investigators said preliminary findings indicate Shively was in an eastbound travel lane of I-40 just before South Saunders Street when she was struck by an unknown vehicle. The driver did not stop and remained unidentified.

Police said after the initial collision, Shively was struck by multiple additional vehicles traveling on the interstate.

The circumstances that led to Shively being in the roadway were not immediately clear.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information about the crash is encouraged to contact Raleigh police.
