RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Raleigh police officer who was patrolling on a motorcycle was involved in a crash with another driver.

The crash took place at 7:48 a.m. at Cabarrus Street and Gale Street.

The officer was taken to the hospital, but was not seriously injured.

"The motor unit was on routine patrol. He was not taking an enforcement action as he was traveling on Cabarrus Street," Police Chief Rico Boyce said.

Raleigh Police said the officer was going eastbound on Cabarrus Street when a 2015 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 van left a parking space and was making a left turn on Cabarrus Street.

The crash took place around 7:48 a.m. at the intersection of Cabarrus Street and Gale Street.

RPD said the Mercedes turned left into the officer's path, causing the collision.

The driver, Berhane Beyen Equbazge, 52, stopped and cooperated with police. He was given sobriety tests and showed no signs of impairment, RPD said.

Equbazge was cited for unsafe movement and released.

Boyce said the officer was a 24-year veteran of the force and has been assigned to the traffic enforcement division "for a number of years."

The case remains under investigation.
