Man killed in shooting involving Sampson County deputy; SBI investigating

SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Authorities said a man was killed in a shooting involving a sheriff's deputy Friday morning in Sampson County.

Around 3 a.m., Sampson County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a 911 call at the Dollar General along Faison Highway in Faison. They encountered a 22-year-old man armed with a weapon. During the incident, the man was shot and killed.

Chopper 11 was over the scene near a Dollar General along Faison Highway, where investigators were gathering evidence.

Two deputies were placed on administrative duty pending the results of the investigation.

The SBI said it was requested to respond and spent most of the morning gathering evidence at the scene.
