New theater coming to downtown Durham

DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Coming soon...Durham will have a new place for film aficionados, art enthusiasts and everyone in between to watch movies and live events.

Owners of Shadowbox Studio, Alex Maness and Jim Haverkamp, plan to open 'Skin and Bones Theater' on Parrish Street in Summer 2026.

'Skin and Bones' will be a place where you can view independent films and documentaries and where filmmakers can showcase their work, according to ABC11's news partner, the Raleigh News and Observer.

The new theater will also be a home to live events.

The goal for the movie theater is to "get back to some localism," Haverkamp told the newspaper.

The three-story building is currently under construction to prepare for the theater, which will seat about 60 people.
