Staff member injured while intervening in Knightdale High School cafeteria fight; student charged

KNIGHTDALE, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Knightdale High School staff member was hurt on Friday after two students got into a fight, according to a town spokesperson.

It happened at Knightdale High School on Bryan Chalk Lane. After a student walkout ended, a fight broke out in the cafeteria, during which a staff member sustained a non-life-threatening injury to their forearm while trying to intervene. They were treated for their injury, according to the spokesperson.

A 16-year-old female was taken into custody and charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Inflicting Serious Injury, Knightdale Police Department confirmed. She is being held at the Wake County Juvenile Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond.

"The Knightdale Police Department, in partnership with the Wake County Public School System and Wake County Public School System Security, remains committed to ensuring that schools are safe and secure learning environments for all students and staff. We take incidents of violence on school campuses very seriously and will continue to work closely with our partners to promote safety, accountability, and community trust," the town said in a statement.

This incident is still under investigation.
