RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Dozens attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new public health facility in Wake County.
The state-of-the-art facility on Swinburn Street features color coordination, outdoor WiFi access, and a design focused on improving efficiency and enhancing the patient experience.
With the ribbon cut, patients will soon be able to access the new center.
The new building replaces the original structure that has been on Sunnybrook Road for nearly 40 years.
Although it has been in development for years, construction began in 2023. The new four-story building spans approximately 154,000 square feet and includes a five-level parking deck.
Eyewitness News received a brief tour of the facility, which features a centralized front desk, waiting areas designed for small children, redesigned lab spaces, new staff work areas emphasizing mobility, and additional dental work spaces equipped with the latest technology.
Officials describe this as a significant upgrade for both patients and staff, designed to serve the growing county.
"Public health is quiet steady force that keeps Wake County safe, healthy and thriving. And this new center shows how essential that work is. This building will be home to our pediatric clinic. Family planning and prenatal clinic which dental, TB and refugee health, immunization, infectious disease and STD clinic, just to name a few," said Rebecca Kaufman the Director of Public Health for Wake County.
Many of the spaces are currently empty as staff transition over the next month, with the official opening scheduled for February 23.
