RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Wake County is moving forward with a major renovation project that will upgrade Historic Oak View County Park while preserving the charm of one of the county's most visited cultural sites.

Located in East Raleigh, the park offers a look into North Carolina's agrarian past. Now, it's set for a series of improvements beginning in summer 2026, with completion expected by summer 2027.

The plan includes expanded parking near the Farm History Center and Livestock Barn, with space for school buses. Sidewalk connections throughout the park will also be improved to make it easier and safer for visitors to move between historic buildings.

A new and improved Bluebird Shelter will create a more versatile space for programs and events.

This project represents a major investment in protecting and enhancing one of our most beloved historic parks. Visitors can look forward to a more dynamic, accessible park experience while we continue to honor Oak View's unique heritage.

The Farm History Center will see major upgrades as well -- interior and exterior renovations, a new children's area, a classroom, an enhanced visitor reception space, updated outdoor gathering areas, and a full roof replacement.

The project also includes a new maintenance facility with staff offices, an outdoor workshop, and a secure equipment yard. Public art installations will be added throughout the park to create a more welcoming environment.

In total, the renovations are expected to cost $4.4 million.
