Wake school board chair cited for speeding in school zone

CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- The chairman of the Wake County School Board is facing a traffic citation after police said he was speeding in a school zone.

Court records obtained by ABC11 show that Tyler Swanson was cited for speeding after police said he was driving 47 mph in a 25-mph school zone in Cary.

Court records show the citation was issued on Jan. 9 on Evans Road near West Cary Middle School during posted school zone hours while class was in session.

Swanson did not respond to an ABC11 request for comment and referred questions from our newsgathering partners at the News & Observer to his attorney, who had not provided comment as of Thursday afternoon.

Swanson is scheduled to appear in court May 6.
