Wiley Nickel poised to become Wake County district attorney
Former congressman Wiley Nickel is poised to become Wake County's next district attorney after winning 49% of the primary vote.

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Former congressman Wiley Nickel will be the next Wake County district attorney.

Nickel won 49% of the vote in the primary and will run un-opposed in November.

Nickel represented the 13th congressional district and decided not to run for re-election in 2024 after voting maps changed.

In July of last year, he suspended his campaign for US Senate when former governor Roy Cooper decided to run for the seat.

Nickel will take over for Lorrin Freeman who decided not to run for re-election.
