WILSON COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A driver was shot, and another crashed off the roadway after a Monday morning road-rage incident in Wilson County, the sheriff's office said.
It happened just after 7:15 a.m. on Interstate 587 near Exit 22, the Downing Road exit.
Deputies and state troopers responded to the scene.
Investigators learned that Isaiah Quawi Farden, 20, of Greenville, allegedly merged into a lane occupied by Anthony Alan Cape, 39, of Goldsboro.
After Farden allegedly cut Cape off, the two began driving aggressively, authorities said, and Cape allegedly hit the rear of Farden's vehicle, causing it to crash.
Cape then got out of his car and approached Farden's vehicle and opened the door. Investigators said Farden allegedly fired multiple shots, striking Cape in the chest.
Cape was taken to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, where he underwent surgery.
His condition was not immediately available.
No charges have yet been filed.
