Jet lands at RDU after declaring in-flight emergency
An American Airlines flight from Dallas had to make an emergency landing at Raleigh-Durham International Airport Thursday afternoon.

RALEIGH-DURHAM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (WTVD) -- An American Airlines flight had to make an emergency landing at Raleigh-Durham International Airport Thursday afternoon.

Flight 332 from Dallas-Ft. Worth alerted airport authorities to a possible problem with its landing gear.

RDU emergency crews readied for the landing, but the plane landed without incident and taxied to the gate on it own.

Two passengers told ABC11 they didn't even know there was a problem on the plane until they landed at RDU and saw the fire trucks.

"We landed and I'm looking out the window and I told my husband, 'Look at the fire trucks out there,' and then we got off and came into airport and they announced that there was a problem, that the flight was delayed due to landing gear issues. Glad I didn't know that," said Meghan Grimes.

The only thing a second passenger told ABC11 is that she noticed a smell during takeoff.

"When we were taking off it was just like an odor, like a burnt rubber, burnt smell," said Hollie Wilson, but she said the flight was smooth from start to finish, and no special announcement was made on the flight.
