RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Hundreds of Catholics gathered at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Friday afternoon for a solemn Good Friday service.
Catholics congregated at Sacred Heart in Raleigh to observe the holiday during Holy Week. Every seat inside was taken, any many people stood in the foyer.
Bishop Michael Burbidge traveled to multiple services across the Triangle on Friday.
"What we celebrate today is God's great love for all of us, all people," Burbidge said.
Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus and is a holiday that is observed by most of Christianity.
"There's a part of you that you want it to end because it's horrific to see what The Lord went through for us," Burbidge said.
On Sunday, parishioners will return to Sacred Heart for Easter service. There will be five services at the church, beginning at 7:30 a.m.
