Saint Augustine's University football player killed in early morning crash

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Saint Augustine's University is mourning the loss of one its football players.

Junior offensive lineman Matthew Mangram died in a car accident near his hometown of Darien, Ga. early Monday morning.

The 20-year-old majored in Criminal Justice at the university.

"It is always hard and difficult to lose a family member, but to lose a young man in the prime of his life like Matthew, who was an honor student and starter on the football team, is almost unspeakable," said Athletic Director George Williams in a statement.

A memorial for Mangram was held at the Chapel on Saint Augustine's campus Monday afternoon.
