FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A man was shot in the parking lot of a busy Fayetteville restaurant on Tuesday evening.

It happened outside Smokey Bones restaurant at 1891 Skibo Road, only about 1,000 feet from Cross Creek Mall.

When officers arrived, a handgun was lying on the ground next to 21-year-old Algeria Khalyid McNair's car. The man who shot him had fled.

McNair was taken to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill with life-threatening injuries to his face, neck, and knee.

The initial investigation indicates that the shooting does not appear to be a random incident, police said.

Detectives with the FPD's Aggravated Assault Unit are actively investigating the shooting and are requesting anyone with information, to contact them.

It all happened at 7:12 p.m., officials said. Eyewitnesses reported hearing five or six gunshots in the parking lot. The barbecue-themed restaurant was crowded with diners at the time. The patrons were told by police to stay inside the restaurant while officers cleared the scene.
