Carolina Panthers C Austin Corbett to season-ending surgery

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers center Austin Corbett will have season-ending surgery to repair a torn biceps suffered in Sunday's 36-10 loss to the Chicago Bears, coach Dave Canales said Monday.

It is the same injury that his replacement, Brady Christensen, suffered in the 2023 opener.

The Panthers (1-4) also will be without starting right tackle Taylor Moton, whose streak of 104 consecutive starts will end Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

He'll be replaced by veteran Yosh Nijman, who signed a two-year, $8 million deal during the offseason to be a swing tackle.

Wide receiver Xavier Legette and outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney both suffered shoulder injuries on Sunday. Both said they hope to play against the NFC South-leading Falcons (3-2).

For Corbett, this is the third straight season in which he has been sidelined by injury. He missed much 2023 with a knee injury while playing guard. He tore his ACL in the 2022 finale.

Christensen has started games at tackle and guard for the Panthers. He began preparing to be Corbett's backup this season, but replacing him will be a tall order. Corbett's 0.6 pressure rate allowed is the lowest among centers this year.

"I've been working on it for a while," Christensen said. "I feel confident in the playbook, protections and everything. I'll study my butt off this week. I'm excited to have a lot of fun."
