A restaurant is raising money Sunday to support the family of 7-year-old Cashmere Parker, who died in a Fourth of July fire in Dunn that authorities say was sparked by illegal fireworks.

Pizza Inn is hosting a fundraiser to help Parker's family as they cope with the tragedy. Cashmere's stepfather continues to receive treatment for serious injuries suffered in the fire.

On Saturday night, family members, friends and community members gathered for a balloon release in memory of the boy.

Cashmere's mother remembered her son as an "angel" while speaking through her grief.

"I raised an angel. I raised an angel," she said. "So my heart is hurt he's not here no more, but God gonna make it all right. He gonna make it all right. I know He is."

Investigators say the fire was caused by an illegal firework that went out of control.

Authorities have charged Brittany Armstrong, a neighbor, with involuntary manslaughter and possession of pyrotechnics. She is accused of lighting the firework that sparked the deadly blaze.

The investigation remains ongoing.
