During a Wednesday afternoon news conference, officials said all victims, including the shooter, are members of the same family and the shooting resulted from a domestic disturbance.
What led up to the disturbance is still under investigation.
Investigators with the sheriff's office said they are still working to determine whether the shooter lived there or traveled to the home.
"That is still under investigation. It might have been found out exactly where he lived," Durden said. "But right now, we are still in the investigative stage, and all that will come out later ... this was an isolated incident, and to please keep the family in your prayers."
The sheriff's office is leading the investigation with assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and several local emergency agencies.
Investigators remained at the scene Wednesday afternoon processing evidence and conducting interviews. Officials said there is no threat to the public and the incident is contained to the property on Brooks Road.
