RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- North Carolina officials have approved over $4 million in rural infrastructure grants expected to support hundreds of new jobs and millions in additional investment statewide.
Gov. Josh Stein announced Thursday that the state’s Rural Infrastructure Authority approved eight grant requests totaling $4,085,208. The projects are expected to create 396 jobs and generate more than $126 million in public and private investment.
State leaders say the funding will support a range of projects, including building reuse, infrastructure upgrades and downtown revitalization efforts in rural communities.
“These grants contribute to our state’s positive momentum by making necessary infrastructure improvements that will bring good-paying jobs and help communities thrive,” Stein said.
Several projects will focus on repurposing vacant buildings for manufacturing and health care, while others will fund water and sewer improvements, industrial site development and downtown streetscape upgrades.
The largest grant -- more than $1.8 million -- will support infrastructure improvements tied to BorgWarner’s expansion in Hendersonville, a project expected to create hundreds of jobs.
Officials say the funding is part of the state’s broader effort to strengthen rural economies and expand opportunity through infrastructure investment.
