Wake mother accused of murder plot pleads guilty
WAKE COUNTY (WTVD) -- A Wake County mother involved in an alleged murder plot with her son to kill the boy's father pleaded guilty to the crime Friday.
Tammy Franklin, 45, and her son Steven, 23, were charged with felony conspiracy in Nov. 2015. Wake County deputies accused them of plotting to murder Tammy's husband and Steven's father Donald Franklin.
Donald Franklin claimed his son lured him to second floor of their garage at the northern Wake County home to get a box of tools. He told investigators as he carried the tools down the stairs, his son Steven pushed him, and that a spiked rake had been placed at the bottom.

When the fall didn't kill Donald Franklin, investigators say the son attacked his father with a knife.
Steven Franklin pleaded guilty in September to assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Originally that charge included "causing serious injury". Prosecutors dropped that charge and also dropped a conspiracy charge.
After getting credit for nearly a year in jail, Steven was given 24 months of probation when he promised to testify against his mother if she went to trial.
That trial was avoided Friday when Franklin plead guilty to "conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury" and "accessory after the fact of assault with a deadly with intent to kill inflicting serious injury".
She was sentenced to a minimum of 38 months and a maximum of 58 months with credit for time served of just over a year.
