Body found on the bank of the Tar River in Edgecombe County

OLD SPARTA, N.C. (WTVD) -- A body was found on the shores of the Tar River near Highway 42 in Edgecombe County around noon on Friday.

The Edgecombe County Sheriff said the body belonged to a white man whose age has not been determined.

Investigators called the case a possible drowning. They focused their investigation along the riverbank near the Old Sparta Boat Ramp.

No other information was immediately released.
