AUBURN, Ill. -- A young mother from central Illinois was hailed a hero after she rescued a man stuck on a railroad track in his motorized scooter.
Ashley Aldridge, 19, lives across from a railroad crossing in Auburn, Ill.
She was fixing lunch for her children on Tuesday when she saw a man on the tracks - and an oncoming train.
Ashley heard him calling for help as the crossing gate came down. She ran outside and was able to lift 75-year-old Earl Moorman just enough to pull him to safety.
The scooter was smashed as soon as the train hit it.
Earl weighs more than 200 pounds. Police said Ashley's sheer determination saved his life.
