SAMPSON COUNTY (WTVD) -- Authorities in Sampson County are investigating what they call a suspicious home fire after two people suffered severe burns early Monday morning in Autryville.

The fire was reported around 5:20 a.m. at 1920 Leroy Autry Road.

Officials said the nature of the fire was suspicious and under investigation by the Sampson County Sheriff's Office and the Sampson County Fire Marshal.

Before the blaze was reported, Sampson County EMS was called to the 2300 block of South River Road in Salemburg about two burn victims.

When they arrived, they found a man and woman with severe burns.

Authorities identified them as Jimmy Butler, Jr. and Kimberly Lou Huss.

The couple, who authorities said have "ties to the Leroy Autry Road address" were transported to the hospital. Officials said Butler is in critical condition and Huss is in fair condition.

Further details have not been released at this time.

The investigation into both incidents is on-going.
