Wayne County woman found shot in the head

WAYNE COUNTY (WTVD) -- Deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said they found a woman lying beside her car on Saturday with a gunshot wound to the head.

Deputies were dispatched to the 3500 block of Hwy 117 Alternate in Dudley around 9:15 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered 43-year-old Arnette Marshburn of Mount Olive.

Marshburn was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital where she was later pronounced dead, authorities said.

An autopsy will be done in Raleigh to determine Marshburn's exact cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released.
