RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- Dry weather continues to be the status quo this month, and we're likely to finish in second place for the driest October on record. High pressure and a strong upper level ridge will promote dry weather for the rest of October and our 0.11" this month looks to be our final total. (Record: Trace from 2000, currently second: 0.22" from 1907) Fayetteville will finish the month with the driest October on record.
Our dry, unusually warm pattern will continue into Friday. We will have two more very warm days before a cold front moves through the area Friday night, trimming temperatures back much closer to normal for the weekend. The record highs are 85 Thursday and 88 Friday, so they are out of reach. It should be a great night for trick or treat night tomorrow night.
A strong cold front now in the central Plains will move steadily east the next few days, reaching the Triangle later Friday night. As this front approaches the Appalachians, it will begin to weaken. This front will be loaded with moisture as it moves through the middle ofthe nation tonight and tomorrow. As this front approaches a strong ridge along the east coast Friday, it will lose much of its moisture. This will greatly lower the chance of any showers with frontal passage Friday night. The main impact will be felt in humidity and temperatures, as both will be lower over the weekend.
Behind this lackluster front, another area of high pressure will build in and sit off the Southeast coast the early and middle part of next week. This will promote continued dry weather and another warm-up early next week. This sets us up for favorable weather for Election Day across the southeast US.
Have a great evening!
