RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of the viewing area Saturday afternoon.

Cumberland, Edgecombe, Franklin, Halifax, Johnston, Nash, Sampson, Wake, Warren, Wayne, and Wilson counties were all issued severe thunderstorm warnings on Saturday afternoon. Come of the southern counties' warnings extended into the evening hours.
Meteorologist Liz Horton said the storm is moving southeast.
Forecasters said very strong winds, lightning, and hail were all possible dangers, but the threat of severe weather was almost gone by Saturday evening.

Some scattered power outages were reported in the areas with severe weather, but they were not expected to last more than an hour.
The heat will continue to build on Sunday and Monday with a mix of clouds and sun each day and temperatures in the middle to upper 90s, according to ABC11 meteorologists.
As a front slowly sinks south on Tuesday, a shower or thunderstorm may become more likely. Temperatures by the middle of the week will return to near average. Another spotty thunderstorm is possible again on Wednesday.
