Where to watch partial lunar eclipse in North Carolina Thursday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- A partial lunar eclipse could be visible across central North Carolina late Thursday night, weather permitting.

Most of the moon's surface will be covered by Earth's shadow at peak eclipse, which is expected shortly after midnight Friday. The eclipse begins around 10:30 p.m.

The Morehead Planetarium and Science Center in Chapel Hill is hosting a lunar eclipse viewing event Thursday night. A ticketed planetarium show starts at 9:30 p.m. and will be followed by free public skywatching.
