Mayor McCrory will not seek another term

CHARLOTTE McCrory said Thursday he will not seek an eighth term in office. McCrory has one year left in his current term as mayor.

He says he will consider other political opportunities, but would not say in what capacity.

McCrory was first elected in 1995, becoming the Queen City's youngest mayor.

He lost to Democratic Beverly Perdue last month in the closest North Carolina governor's race in 36 years.

McCrory announced his gubernatorial candidacy 11 months ago. He received 47 percent of the vote in the November election.
